5 Facts About Oysters You May Not Know

We are all about our oysters at Tuckers Shuckers.  We pride ourselves on having the freshest oysters at the Lake of the Ozarks.  We already know that oysters taste amazing, but here are 5 more interesting things about them that you may not know.

1. Every oyster has the ability to be male or female.
While they can only be one or the other at any given time, oysters have the ability to change their sexes.  They have gonads that make eggs as well as sperm!  At least once during their lifetime, an oyster will change from male to female, and vice-versa.

2. They are very fertile.
A female oyster can release over a million eggs in a spawning season.

3. Oysters breath like fish.
Oysters have both gills and mantle to breathe through.  They also have a small, 3-chambered heart that pumps colorless blood.

4. Oysters "are what they eat."
The color of an oyster is decided by its diet.  The meat is generally light beige, light gray, or off-white.  Their diet usually consists of plankton, animal waste, and decayed plants, along with any small particles that they suck in.

5. You should only eat oysters in months with an "R"...
...IS NO LONGER TRUE!!  The reason for this was because a long time ago, when refrigeration methods were not good like they are today, it was difficult to keep oysters in the Summer months.

9 Fun Things To Do With Your Dad

Father's Day 2015 will be here in just a few days.  Have you had a chance to make any plans yet?  Well, Tuckers Shuckers Oysters & Tap at the Lake of the Ozarks has got your back.  Here are a few fun ideas for spending some time with your Dad.

Get out on the Lake

Father's Day is also the first day of Summer this year, and there's no better Summer activity if you are at the Lake of the Ozarks than getting out on the water.  You and Dad can head out early and get in some fishing.  Hop on the boat or jet skis and cruise around the lake.  There are lots of places to rent if you don't own one.  Is your pop a little bit adventurous?  Parasailing is an awesome experience, and you can go up as a group.  

Go-Kart Racing

Is your Dad a car lover?  Well, if buying him a new one isn't quite in your budget, how about heading over to the go-kart track!  It's fast, it's fun, and a little healthy competition is good for everyone.

Hike a Trail

The Lake of the Ozarks has got all kinds of trails to hike.  Grab your water bottles & bug spray, pack some trail mix, and get moving.  Staying active keeps Dad feeling young.

Get Sporty

Head over to the golf course and play 18 holes.  It is Father's Day, so make sure you carry Dad's clubs for him.  If you have a large enough family or a group of sporty friends, put together a softball game.  Go to a local park with a basketball hoop and play a little one-on-one.  If you and your father don't feel like getting that active, there's always ESPN to watch together.  

Concert in the Park

The Osage Beach City Park is hosting it's 1st Annual Welcome To Summer Event the day before Father's Day this year.  It includes a free concert by the Travis Gibson Band, fireworks, concessions, and family friendly comedian Michael Joiner. Click here for an event flier. 

Catch a Movie

If Dad is a movie buff, head over to the theater and catch a movie together.  Let him choose the movie though.  No chick flicks today!

Video Games

Are you into Playstation or Xbox?  Hold a gaming tournament with your father.  If he doesn't regularly play with you, take the time to teach it to him.  You could end up with a new hobby to share.  Another option is to go old school and find an arcade.  If it has a Pac-Man machine, you're gonna have a blast!

Walk the Bagnell Dam Strip

For lots of variety, the Strip is the place to go.  There are all kinds of shops to find lots of unique treasures in.  It also has a scenic view, that cool dam to walk across, ice cream & fudge shops, arcades, and so much more.  You will have no problem staying busy all day exploring the Bagnell Dam Strip.

Take Dad out for Dinner

June Events at Tuckers Shuckers & on the Bagnell Dam Strip

There is a lot of excitement going on at Tuckers Shuckers this June.  We have a couple of month's under our belts, and our oyster restaurant on the Bagnell Dam Strip just keeps getting better and better.  Besides offering you fresh, delicious menu items, we also have some of the best live music at the Lake of the Ozarks along with some pretty incredible events happening on the Strip.

Lake Race 2015

The Offshore Super Series powerboat races are happening all weekend long on the Bagnell Dam Strip.  Friday night is the Lake Race Village, and Saturday & Sunday you can see the races from various spots along the strip.  Head on over to the Lake Race website for all of the details and a digital program.

Bike Night

June 18 and every 3rd Thursday night this Summer starting at 5:30 pm is Bike Night.  Sign up for weekly prizes and your very own motorcycle, and watch everything happening from one of our two patios while you enjoy some food, live music, and our awesome bar.  

Hot Summer Nights

Another fun monthly event on the Bagnell Dam Strip, Hot Summer Nights, will be Friday, June 12.  The theme is "Route 66 Rendezvous at the Lake."  It happens from 6 pm - 11 pm, rain or shine.  Free admission, family fun events, and classic cars parked everywhere.  Stroll the strip enjoying all there is to see and do, then come on in to Tuckers Shuckers to finish your evening.

    

All kinds of good times to experience with us here this June.  We don't only want to see you for the special events though.  Tuckers Shuckers is open 7 days a week at 11:00 am for lunch and on into the evening for dinner, drinks, and fun.  Come on by soon and check out everything that's happening.
